Two men were arrested for poaching an elephant in Dharmapuri. The Forest Department found the elephant's body near Emanur earlier this month. The authorities identified the suspects as Dinesh and Senthil, both from Kongarapatti. The elephant was between 7 and 10 years old. Its body was discovered partially burned and missing its trunk on March 1. This incident is the first reported case of elephant poaching in that forest area. The Forest Department also recovered two tusks from nearby Karaikal village in Salem. District Forest Officer K. Rajangam said the suspects had not yet been brought before a judge as of late Tuesday. Officials expect more arrests to follow.
