Two Blair Academy wrestlers reach NCAA semifinals
Two wrestlers from Blair Academy have made it to the semifinals of the NCAA Wrestling Championships. Owen Trephan, a heavyweight from Lehigh, secured his place after winning a key match against Iowa’s Ben Kueter. Trephan, a two-time national prep champion, won 4-1 in the quarterfinals. He has taken a unique path after transferring from NC State, where he was a three-year starter. At Lehigh, he has found new opportunities and training partners that have helped him grow. Trephan is excited about his upcoming match against Gable Steveson, a two-time national champion and Olympic gold medalist. He sees this match as a challenge and looks forward to competing against one of the best in the sport. The second Blair Academy product in the semifinals is Shayne Van Ness from Penn State. He earned his second All-American title with a 7-2 win over Lachlan McNeil. Van Ness will face Ridge Lovett from Nebraska, who previously defeated him earlier this season. Overall, Trephan and Van Ness represent the talent coming from New Jersey high schools, joining other accomplished wrestlers in the semifinals.
