Construction is ongoing for flood reduction detention basins along Big Creek Parkway in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. City officials shared updates during a March 10 meeting. The first basin is already completed, and work is progressing on the next two. City Engineer Kim Kerber reported that the design for the second basin is almost finished, with 90 percent completed. The plan will soon be sent to the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District for review. Public Service Director Jim Herron announced that the necessary permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been obtained. This will allow tree clearing to begin shortly. Davey Tree has won the bid to clear the trees for $62,000, with work expected to start by the end of the week. Herron mentioned plans to bid for the construction of the second basin by mid to late summer. The city also needs to acquire one more residential property before starting the third basin. After that, they will seek approval from the Ohio EPA and finalize the design for the last basin.
