Two I-64 bridges in Louisville will be replaced
Two bridges on Interstate 64 in Louisville will be replaced this year. The work will start this summer and will change traffic patterns. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced that preliminary work is already underway. However, the actual demolition of the bridges will not begin until mid-May at the earliest. The bridges being replaced are located over the Middle Fork of Beargrass Creek, one going westbound near Cannons Lane and the other eastbound near the Watterson Expressway. The project will happen in phases. There will be lane closures and shifts throughout this time. Initially, crews will work on the shoulder of the road. This will leave two lanes of 11 feet each for drivers in both directions. After that, traffic will be moved to the outside shoulder while work is done in the median. The replacement of the westbound bridge is expected to be finished by July. The last phase will involve the eastbound bridge, which is likely to be completed by the fall. During the eastbound bridge's construction, drivers will use the newly built westbound bridge and the median. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has given a $6.6 million contract for this project to E&B Paving from Jeffersonville, Indiana. Updates on traffic changes will be available in the weekly Roadshow report.
