Two new Electric Train Service (ETS) trains are set to arrive in April. They will be operational by August 2025 after necessary tests. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that this development is a significant milestone for Malaysia's rail system. The ETS will connect the country from the Malaysia-Thailand border in the north to the Malaysia-Singapore border in the south. Two trains are being built in Batu Gajah, Perak, and will complete the southern line of the ETS. The service at Segamat station in Johor began on March 15. Loke mentioned that they will start using trains as they are completed, rather than waiting for all ten to arrive. The ETS will operate in three phases between Gemas and Johor Bahru. Phase 1 will go to Segamat, Phase 2 will reach Kluang, and Phase 3 will end at JB Sentral. Loke also shared that the ETS will offer a business class option for added passenger comfort. Additionally, RM300,000 has been allocated to build a covered walkway linking Segamat Station to the bus terminal. This project will start after the Hari Raya Aifilfitri celebration and is expected to be completed by October.
