Two Siwan shelter employees suspended after girls escape

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Two employees at a state shelter home in Siwan have been suspended after 13 girls escaped on the night of March 19. The social welfare department cited negligence as the reason for suspending probationary officer Shivani Jaiswal and caretaker Sunita Devi. So far, police have located four of the missing girls. They expect these girls to return to the shelter home in the next day or two. One girl from Gopalganj came back to her family, while two others were found at a police station in New Delhi. These two girls are now in the care of an NGO until they can be returned home. Superintendent of Police Amitesh Kumar reported that another girl was located in Ambala, Haryana. He mentioned that some of the girls had contacted their families, saying they were safe. The police are treating these cases as kidnappings and have filed a complaint. The police are working hard to find the remaining nine girls. They are tracking phone numbers and gathering information for their rescue. After the escape, officials discovered that the CCTV cameras in the shelter were not monitored. The girls had even turned off the cameras before they escaped. Among the 13 girls, four are from Saran, three from Siwan, and two each are from Sitamarhi and Vaishali. Most of the girls are minors.
