Two women were killed and a one-year-old child was injured in a crash on the 60 Freeway in Pomona. The accident happened late Saturday when a car, reportedly driven by a person under the influence, was going the wrong way. According to the California Highway Patrol, reports came in about a car traveling east in the westbound lanes near the 71 Freeway around 11 p.m. The driver, 24-year-old Rick Rodriguez, was thrown into the spotlight for allegedly being intoxicated. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. The wrong-way vehicle, a 2013 Honda Accord, collided head-on with another car, a 2018 Honda Civic. The impact caused the Accord to spin out and hit a 2019 Toyota Highlander. The two women in the Civic were from Huntington Park. A 29-year-old woman was driving, and a 39-year-old was her passenger. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The one-year-old child, who was also in the Civic, was seriously hurt. The child was taken to Children’s Hospital of Orange County for treatment. Additionally, the driver of the Highlander, 47-year-old Veronica Segura from Commerce, was treated for minor injuries. Authorities issued a SigAlert, closing several lanes of the westbound freeway for several hours. The lanes were reopened early Sunday morning. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the CHP.
