Typhoon Julian intensifies near Cagayan and approaches super typhoon status
Typhoon Julian has intensified and is close to becoming a super typhoon, according to the Philippine weather agency, Pagasa. As of Monday morning, it was located near Balintang Island in Cagayan, with maximum winds of 175 kph and gusts up to 215 kph. Julian is moving west-northwest at 10 kph and is expected to continue intensifying. However, it may weaken due to Taiwan's rugged terrain before making landfall. The typhoon is likely to remain in the Philippine area until it exits. Several areas are under wind signals, including Batanes and parts of Cagayan, Abra, and Ilocos. Local governments have suspended classes in affected regions due to the approaching storm.
