Typhoon Krathon approaches Taiwan as heavy rain prompts evacuations
Typhoon Krathon is approaching Taiwan, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. As of Wednesday, over 4,000 people have evacuated from low-lying and mountainous areas. The typhoon is expected to make landfall early Thursday on the west coast. In the past four days, Taitung County received 93 centimeters of rain, while Kaohsiung saw 29 centimeters. Schools and government offices are closed, and domestic flights have been canceled. Authorities have warned residents about potential flooding and landslides. The typhoon has weakened but is still dangerous. Almost 40,000 troops are on standby for rescue efforts. Earlier, Krathon affected northern Philippine islands, resulting in four deaths and displacing at least 5,000 people.
