Typhoon Leon weakens as Batanes issues Signal No. 3
Tropical Cyclone Leon has weakened into a typhoon, prompting Batanes to be placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3. The storm is currently 155 kilometers north of Itbayat, moving northwest at 25 kilometers per hour. Signal No. 2 is in effect for Babuyan Islands, while Signal No. 1 covers several areas in Luzon. Leon is expected to make landfall in Taiwan later today and may exit the Philippine area by Thursday evening. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported 150 fatalities linked to Leon and Severe Tropical Storm Kristine. Evacuations are underway in Batanes, with food packs distributed to residents.
