Typhoon Ofel weakens after making landfall in Cagayan, Philippines

Typhoon Ofel, also known as Usagi, made landfall in Baggao, Cagayan, on Thursday afternoon and has since weakened. The Philippine weather bureau reported that Ofel's maximum sustained winds are now 175 kilometers per hour. The typhoon is moving west northwest at 20 kilometers per hour and is expected to continue across northeastern Luzon. It may approach the Babuyan Islands later Thursday night before turning northward over the sea west of Batanes. Hazards remain in areas outside the landfall point, and a gale warning is in effect for the northern and eastern coasts of Northern Luzon and parts of Central Luzon.
