Typhoon Pepito may trigger lahars from Taal, Pinatubo, and Mayon volcanoes in the Philippines
Typhoon Pepito, expected to become a super typhoon, may trigger lahars from Taal, Pinatubo, and Mayon volcanoes, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). Heavy rainfall from the storm could cause volcanic sediment flows. Pepito is currently located 220 kilometers east-northeast of Borongan City, with maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour. It is moving west-northwest at 25 kilometers per hour and is forecast to bring significant rainfall across Luzon. Phivolcs warned that lahars could affect communities near these volcanoes, particularly in Albay Province and Zambales. They advised local governments and residents to monitor the situation and prepare for potential impacts.
