Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 has been issued for Northern and Eastern Samar as Typhoon Pepito strengthens. The typhoon, located 650 kilometers east of Guiuan, has maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 160 kph. Pepito entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday night as a severe tropical storm. It is currently moving westward at 30 kph and is expected to make landfall near Catanduanes on Saturday evening or early Sunday. Signal No. 1 has also been raised in parts of Luzon and the Visayas. Pepito is the 16th tropical cyclone in the Philippines this year and the sixth in less than a month.
