Typhoon Toraji strikes Philippines as fourth storm in a month
The Philippines faced its fourth typhoon in a month as Typhoon Toraji made landfall near Dilasag on Monday. Authorities ordered evacuations for 2,500 villages, but the number of people sheltered is unclear. Toraji brought maximum winds of 130 kilometers per hour and prompted the closure of schools and government offices in affected areas. Nearly 700 passengers were stranded at ports due to unsafe sea conditions. The national weather agency warned of severe winds, heavy rainfall, and a risk of storm surges along the coast. Another tropical depression and a potential tropical storm may threaten the region later this week.
