Tyron Smith drawing interest from San Francisco 49ers
The New York Jets are making significant changes this offseason. They have hired a new head coach and general manager after a tough 2024 season. The Jets ended that season with a record of 5-12. As part of their roster overhaul, the Jets released several big-name players. Notable departures include quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams. Several other key players, including cornerback D.J. Reed and right tackle Morgan Moses, are also no longer with the team. One of the remaining free agents is offensive tackle Tyron Smith. He previously played for the Dallas Cowboys and has made eight Pro Bowls in his 13-year career. Smith signed with the Jets last offseason for a one-year deal worth up to $20 million. However, he suffered a neck injury that limited him to 10 games last season. The Jets have already drafted a left tackle, Olu Fashanu, to fill Smith's position. Still, they may want to add depth to their offensive line. Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers are looking at Smith as a potential fit. They already have Trent Williams, so if Smith signs there, he might need to play on the right side for the first time in several years. Both Smith and Williams are in their mid-30s and faced injury challenges last season. Having experienced depth could be beneficial for the 49ers as they aim to strengthen their roster.
