UAE and China enhance nuclear regulation cooperation
ABU DHABI: The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) met with a high-level delegation from China in Abu Dhabi. The Chinese group was led by Dong Baotong, a senior official in China's nuclear safety administration. During the meeting, FANR and the Chinese officials discussed ways to improve cooperation. They focused on sharing knowledge, research, and development related to nuclear safety and security. They also talked about nuclear non-proliferation and regulations for new nuclear technologies. This visit builds on a partnership that began in 2018 when both countries signed an agreement to work together on nuclear safety. In November 2024, they agreed to a three-year action plan for better cooperation in various nuclear areas. FANR officials showcased their oversight of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. The Chinese delegation shared updates on their nuclear programs. They also toured FANR’s Emergency Operations Centre, learning about the UAE's emergency preparedness and safety measures for the public and environment.
