UAE residents building school for children in Nepal
A group of 15 residents from the UAE is building a school in a remote village in western Nepal. These employees from Ducab traded their office clothes for construction gear. They are working with local laborers to lay the foundation in Amrahiya. The school, set to open in April 2025, will help address the lack of educational opportunities, especially for girls. It will serve up to 200 children and will have modern classrooms and sanitation facilities. The project is part of Ducab's community support program in partnership with Dubai Cares. They are working on the ‘Adopt a School’ campaign, which aims to improve education. Additionally, Ducab will run a two-year adult literacy program to help older community members learn to read and write. Maitha Shuaib, Ducab's executive director, stated that education is a basic right for everyone and emphasizes the importance of their partnership with Dubai Cares. Asma Alfalasi, a CSR officer involved in the project, shared her thoughts about the experience. She found it eye-opening to face challenges and discover their capabilities. Shama AlMarzooqi, another volunteer, mentioned that a school symbolizes dreams and opportunities for children. She felt that witnessing the hope in their eyes made the effort worthwhile. The journey to Amrahiya was not easy. Fulfilling tasks in harsh weather and rugged conditions tested the volunteers. However, the warm welcome from the local community made the experience special. Dhiraj Sinha, a vice president at Ducab, described how the villagers treated them like family. The school's completion will be a significant event for Amrahiya, coinciding with the UAE's 'Year of Community.' This is part of Ducab's broader efforts to support community development, including a tree-planting initiative and building homes for people in need.
