Uber driver drops off teen in unfamiliar area

A mother from Wauwatosa is upset after a troubling incident involving an Uber ride for her 14-year-old daughter. Latisha Ward arranged for her daughter, Kylei, to take an Uber home after a class at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on March 15. Latisha couldn't pick her up because she was at work, but Kylei had successfully used her Uber account before. The driver, named Robert, picked Kylei up without any problems initially. However, just a few minutes into the ride, Latisha received a call from Kylei, who was crying. The driver had abruptly stopped the car, told Kylei he was sick, and ordered her to get out. He then left her near a location she did not recognize. Feeling worried, Latisha talked to her daughter as she sought help. Kylei entered a nearby gas station, where the staff assured Latisha that she was safe. Latisha rushed from work to find her daughter. Although Kylei was unharmed, the incident left both of them shaken. Latisha reported that when she tried to file a complaint with Uber, she faced difficulty. Uber later stated they are investigating the matter and are committed to rider safety. Latisha expressed her frustration, questioning why a driver would leave a young girl in an unfamiliar area instead of taking her home. She is relieved her daughter is safe but still seeks answers about the incident.
