UConn reaches Hockey East title game after beating BU
UConn's hockey team has reached the Hockey East title game after defeating Boston University 5-2 in a semifinal match. This win marks the second time UConn has advanced to the championship game since joining the league in the 2014-2015 season. The game took place at TD Garden in Boston. UConn, ranked No. 7, showcased their strength against BU, a team with a rich history of winning 10 championships. UConn coach Mike Cavanaugh praised his team's progress over the years. “My goal when I came here... was to build a blue-chip company,” he said. UConn's record improved to 22 wins, 10 losses, and 4 ties, while BU fell to 21 wins, 13 losses, and 2 ties. UConn's sophomore Joey Muldowney was a standout player, scoring three goals in the match. Goalie Callum Tung also played a key role, making 25 saves to help secure the victory. Both teams began the game with high energy. BU took an early lead, scoring first, but UConn answered back quickly. UConn tied the game and then took the lead with a series of strong plays. They outshot BU significantly, finishing with 21 shots on goal by the end of the second period. In the third period, UConn continued to dominate, pulling ahead 4-1 before Muldowney sealed the game with an empty-net goal. UConn will now face either Maine or Northeastern in the title game on Friday night. Coach Cavanaugh and his players are looking forward to the challenge and hope to bring home the championship.
