Ugandan man arrested for assaulting pregnant Massachusetts woman
Gedion Masunsu, a 28-year-old man from Uganda, has been in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since late January. He was arrested on charges of assaulting a pregnant woman in Massachusetts. The incident details surfaced recently, revealing serious allegations against him. Masunsu was charged with two counts of assault and battery related to the assault on the pregnant victim and destruction of property. He was initially arrested by Waltham Police on January 6 but was released by the district court despite ICE’s request to hold him. He was later taken into custody by ICE on January 25. The U.S. authorities claim that Masunsu attempted to enter the country with an expired visa in April 2021. He was processed at Logan International Airport but was later ordered to be removed from the United States. ICE officials expressed their commitment to public safety and denounced the violence against the victim and her unborn child. The case drew more attention when the Trump administration referenced it in recent communications, criticizing Boston Mayor Michelle Wu for her protective stance towards illegal immigrants. Wu responded, defending her commitment to the community and rejecting the administration's portrayal of the city's policies as reckless.
