UK beach declared unsafe for swimming due to water pollution
Wildersmouth Beach in Ilfracombe, a popular UK tourist spot, has been classified as unsafe for swimming due to poor water quality. The Environment Agency's assessments revealed high levels of E. coli and intestinal enterococci in the water. The beach is now marked on the agency's pollution map, which tracks water quality at bathing sites across England. A permanent advisory against swimming has been issued following past incidents, including a case in 2018 where a girl was hospitalized. Other nearby beaches, such as Hele and Tunnels, remain safe for swimming. Visitors are advised to take precautions when swimming in open water to reduce the risk of illness.
