UK benefits increase by 1.7% starting April 2025
The government has announced a 1.7% increase in certain benefit payments starting in April. This change will impact parents and carers as new rates for Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance come into effect. From April 7, Child Benefit will rise in line with inflation. Parents will now receive £26.05 per week for their first child. This is up from £25.60. For each additional child, the weekly payment will increase to £17.25 from £16.95. With these new rates, parents with one child can expect £1,354.60 per year. Those with two children will receive £2,251.60, and parents with three children can get £3,148.60 annually. Guardian’s Allowance will also see an increase. The weekly payment will rise to £22.10 from £21.75. This amount is available for those caring for a child whose parents have passed away. The annual total for Guardian’s Allowance will be £1,149.20 after the increase. These changes will help support families and ensure benefits keep pace with inflation.
