UK government policies hurt tourism, costing billions
albayan.ae (Arabic) —
The UK government faces accusations of damaging the tourism sector, with international visitor spending down by over £2.2 billion last year. A report revealed that international visitors spent £3.40 billion in 2024, a 3.5% decrease from 2019. The World Travel & Tourism Council attributes this decline to government policies creating travel barriers, including electronic travel permits and increased fees. Despite the drop in international spending, the travel and tourism sector still contributed £286 billion to the UK economy in 2024 and supported 2.4 million jobs.
