UK pub owner in Spain faces repeated burglaries
A British pub owner in Spain has expressed frustration after his bar was robbed for the third time in six months. Simon Dearing, who runs The Rose and Thistle in La Duquesa, reported that thieves broke in by smashing a window. They stole charity tins meant to help disabled children, cash from the till, and some beer. Dearing criticized local police for not doing enough to prevent the rise in burglaries in the area. He mentioned that the police, known as Guardia Civil, did not take fingerprints at the crime scene because they believed it would not be useful. He added that they also ignored evidence related to a knife used in the break-in. The robbers caused significant damage while searching for cash. They smashed bottles and unsuccessfully tried to break into a fruit machine. Dearing described the situation as "gut-wrenching," highlighting the financial burden of repairing the damage and recovering the stolen charity money. Local businesses are feeling the impact of the recent crime wave. Dearing noted that there have been multiple break-ins in neighboring areas as well. To address the issue, business owners are circulating a petition for better policing. Meanwhile, three suspects arrested earlier in the week for a related robbery have been released on bail as investigations continue.
