UK Subs members denied US entry after Trump criticism
Three members of the British punk band UK Subs were denied entry into the United States when they arrived at Los Angeles International Airport. Only the band’s singer, Charlie Harper, was allowed to perform at the LA Punk Invasion festival on March 15. The band’s bassist, Alvin Gibbs, shared the news on Facebook on March 19. He mentioned that he and two other band members, Marc Carrey and Stefan Häublein, were sent back home. Gibbs speculated that his criticism of former President Trump might have played a role in their denial of entry. He mentioned that they were told he did not have the right visa, and there was another undisclosed issue. Gibbs described being held for 25 hours at the airport with his bandmates and other detainees. He noted that reports of others being denied entry due to political comments have surfaced recently. For example, a French scientist claimed he faced a similar situation. However, a Homeland Security official labeled those claims as “blatantly false.” Responses to Gibbs’ post often expressed support. Many fans were shocked by the situation, highlighting concerns about the impact on other artists trying to tour in the U.S. Gibbs humorously added that he was denied alcohol on his return flight due to United Airlines' policy during such detentions, while his bandmates enjoyed drinks on their flight home.
