UK teen sentenced for murdering family and planning school shooting
A British teenager named Nicholas Prosper has been sentenced to 49 years in prison for murdering his mother and two siblings. The 19-year-old killed Juliana Falcon, his 13-year-old sister Giselle, and his 16-year-old brother Kyle in their Luton home last September. He had planned to carry out a school shooting at his former primary school to gain notoriety. During his court hearing, Prosper pleaded guilty to all charges, including illegally buying a shotgun with the intention of attacking the school. The judge, Bobbie Cheema-Grubb, revealed that Prosper aimed to be known as a "famous school shooter," wanting to surpass the death toll of the Sandy Hook and Virginia Tech shootings. The court learned that Prosper had withdrawn into an online world and struggled to stay in school or hold a job. Just hours before the murders, he fired a test shot into a teddy bear. After killing his mother when she woke, he shot his sister and stabbed his brother over 100 times. The violent nature of the case has alarmed UK authorities. The UK government announced plans to review regulations on private gun sales following the incident. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper stated that the case highlighted significant weaknesses in firearms laws. Currently, a firearm certificate is needed to legally buy a gun, with police evaluating the applicant's potential threat to public safety.
