Ukraine congratulates Trump as concerns grow over potential shift in US support for war with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy quickly congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory, expressing hope for strong U.S. support and cooperation. He emphasized the need for a "peace through strength" approach to resolve the conflict with Russia.
Despite Zelenskiy's optimism, there are concerns in Ukraine that Trump may seek a quick deal with Russia, potentially compromising Ukraine's territorial integrity and NATO aspirations. Trump has previously claimed he could end the war in just one day.
The Kremlin responded cautiously, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov noting the U.S. is seen as an adversary in the conflict. He stated that the U.S. could influence the situation, but the future direction of U.S. policy will only be clear after Trump's inauguration in January.
