Ukraine gains U.S. approval to use ATACMS missiles for strikes on Russian targets
Ukraine has received authorization from President Joe Biden to use U.S.-supplied Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) for strikes within Russian territory. This marks a significant shift in U.S. military support amid increased Russian offensives. ATACMS missiles can strike targets up to 190 miles away, making them effective against key Russian supply lines and command centers. Ukraine has been seeking longer-range weapons to improve its position in the conflict, where Russia has greater resources. Each ATACMS missile costs between $1 million and $1.5 million. Ukraine is expected to use them strategically, focusing on high-value targets while adhering to U.S. guidelines to prevent escalation.
