Ukraine receives €3 billion military aid from Germany
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to Germany for a new military aid package worth €3 billion. This support is crucial for Ukraine as it continues to defend itself against Russia. Zelensky said the aid includes essential supplies that will save lives in Ukraine. He thanked German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and likely successor Friedrich Merz for their support. In a message on social media, Zelensky wrote, "Thank you, Germany." He noted that this assistance would enhance Ukraine's air defense, artillery, drones, armored vehicles, and demining equipment. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also praised Germany for its commitment to long-term peace and security in Ukraine and Europe. He highlighted that German weapons have already helped save thousands of lives. The German parliament's budget committee recently approved the aid package, which includes funding for this year and future years, totaling up to €8.3 billion through 2029. Germany’s Ministry of Defence plans to deliver the new weapons soon, including the Iris-T air defense system, guided missiles, surveillance radars, and drones. Overall, Germany has committed over €44 billion in aid to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion.
