Ukraine reports Russia fires intercontinental ballistic missile at Dnipro
Ukraine's air force reported that Russia fired an RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) at Dnipro, marking a potential first use of such a weapon in the ongoing conflict. The missile is designed to evade defenses and can carry nuclear warheads. Russia is estimated to have around 306 strategic ICBMs, capable of delivering up to 1,185 nuclear warheads. These include the SS-27 Mod 1 and Mod 2 missiles, as well as the developing Sarmat missile, which is intended to replace older systems. The RS-26 Rubezh has a range of 5,800 kilometers and can reach speeds of 4,000 mph, making it hard to intercept. Its development violates the now-defunct Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which previously restricted such missile capabilities.
