UN chief condemns Sudan's RSF as Britain seeks Security Council action
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned attacks on civilians by Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Britain plans to introduce a U.N. Security Council resolution to address the ongoing conflict, which has caused significant displacement and violence since April 2023.
The RSF is accused of killing at least 124 people in a recent incident. Guterres highlighted serious violations of humanitarian law, including killings, detentions, and sexual violence. Britain aims to discuss aid delivery and civilian protection at a Security Council meeting on November 12.
A three-month approval for humanitarian aid through the Adre border crossing with Chad is set to expire in mid-November. The Sudanese government has expressed commitment to facilitate aid, while Russia emphasized that decisions about the crossing should remain with Sudanese authorities.
