UN team links Sudan's Rapid Support Forces to widespread sexual violence
A U.N.-backed team investigating human rights violations in Sudan has found the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) responsible for widespread sexual violence in areas under their control. The report highlights gang rapes and sexual slavery linked to the RSF.
The team’s leader, Mohamed Chande Othman, noted that violence has surged since fighting began between the Sudanese military and the RSF. The report details intimidation tactics used by perpetrators, including threats with weapons and physical assaults.
The ongoing conflict has led to significant displacement, with over 30% of Sudan's population affected. Recent violence in east central Sudan resulted in more than 120 deaths, according to reports from a doctors group and the U.N.
