Underground drainage project in Coimbatore nearly completed

thehindu.com

The underground drainage work in the Kurichi-Kuniyamuthur areas of Coimbatore is almost finished. Officials report that 99% of the project is complete. The last steps involve laying pipelines under the Podanur railway line. This underground sewerage scheme is part of a larger effort to improve waste management in the area. The sewage treatment plant is located at the Vellalore dump yard and will manage sewage from these new pipelines. Two pumping stations will contribute to this system. To lay the pipelines, the Southern Railway is building an overbridge and an underground box culvert. The project requires separate structures to accommodate two railway lines at different heights. Only about 300 meters of pipeline remains to be installed. The Southern Railway expects to finish the overbridge work within a week. The box culvert should be completed by the second week of April. Train services will only be halted temporarily, for about two hours, during the installations. Recently, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran visited the site and met with officials from the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board and the Southern Railway. The goal is to complete the project soon and prepare for its inauguration.
