Unexpected winner at Cheltenham Festival's Champion Hurdle
The opening day of the Cheltenham Festival saw a surprising turn in the Champion Hurdle race. Favourites Constitution Hill and State Man both fell, allowing Golden Ace to win at 25-1 odds, marking a first Grade 1 victory for jockey Lorcan Williams. Earlier races featured expected wins, including Kopek Des Bordes in the opening race and Myretown in the Ultima Handicap Chase. Jango Baie also surprised by coming from behind to win the Arkle Novices' Chase, showcasing the day's unpredictability. The festival began with a tribute to Irish jockey Michael O’Sullivan, who passed away last month. The first race was renamed in his honor, and attendees observed a minute of applause to remember him.
