The Township of Union will hold a special two-day event to honor Memorial Day on May 25 and 26. This celebration will include a living history encampment, a parade, and a battle reenactment. Mayor James Bowser emphasized the importance of remembering those who sacrificed their lives for the country. He believes these events will help connect the past with the present and educate future generations. On Sunday, May 25, from 1 to 4 p.m., there will be a Living History Encampment at Town Hall. Visitors can experience life during the Revolutionary War Era. Activities include demonstrations of period cannons by Maxwell’s Artillery and traditional crafts and music by Lynn King. Noah Lewis will portray a Continental soldier, and members of the 1st New Jersey Regiment will display authentic military equipment. On Monday, May 26, the parade will start at 10 a.m. from the VFW on High Street. Following the parade, there will be a reenactment of the Connecticut Farms Battle. Participants from the 1st New Jersey Regiment and other reenactors will recreate this significant event in history. After the skirmish, marchers can enjoy hot dogs and Italian ice, and there will be a complimentary lunch provided at the VFW. Bob Johnsen, the Township of Union Veteran’s Affairs Liaison, said this weekend is a time to remember and honor our fallen heroes. He encourages people of all ages to join these free events. Residents and visitors can find more information on the Township's website or social media.
