Unique 1962 Excalibur RS Roadster to auction in May
A unique car, the Excalibur RS Roadster, will be auctioned in May. This one-of-a-kind vehicle was built in the 1990s and is based on a design from 1961. The auction will take place at Mecum's Indy 2025 event on May 16. The Roadster was inspired by the original 1961 Excalibur Hawk, a design by American designer Brooks Stevens. Although the Roadster was planned back then, it wasn't completed until a friend of Stevens commissioned it years later. The car is built on a custom steel tube frame and features handmade aluminum body panels. The Excalibur RS has a striking design, with doors that open upward, borrowed from a Lamborghini Murcielago. It has a powerful 5.7-liter V-8 engine from General Motors, which produces a classic V-8 sound. While it has an appearance of a manual transmission, it actually has a 700R4 automatic. The car is finished in a deep shade of blue, inspired by Mercedes-Benz. It includes many premium features, such as power-operated hood, doors, and trunk. The interior is also meticulously designed. As a one-off model, it will be interesting to see how much it sells for at the auction.
