United Airlines settles discrimination case for $99,000 involving anti-Asian slurs and assault

United Airlines will pay $99,000 to settle a discrimination case involving an Asian American employee, Alsunbayar Davaabat. He alleged that a supervisor used anti-Asian slurs and physically assaulted him during the pandemic. Davaabat resigned after the airline did not take immediate action following the incident. The company later removed the manager involved and began an investigation over a month later, during which the manager received a pay raise. As part of the settlement, United Airlines will provide Davaabat with 75,000 flight miles and review its equal employment opportunity policies. The airline will also change its workplace violence policy to ensure timely investigations of complaints.
