United Airlines is changing its flight plans for the summer. The airline will stop flying its Boeing 777-200 from Washington Dulles to San Diego. Instead, it will start flying to Las Vegas. The timetable change will take effect in late May. Daily flights to San Diego will conclude on May 20. New flights to Las Vegas will begin on May 22. This change will last until August 18, after which flights to San Diego may resume in September. In June, United will continue flying the 777-200 to other U.S. cities like Denver and Los Angeles. The adjustment comes amid increased competition on the San Diego route. Alaska Airlines recently started offering a new flight from Washington D.C. to San Diego, adding options for travelers. Southwest Airlines also provides multiple weekly flights from the Baltimore area to San Diego. During June, travelers will have 55 weekly flight options from the Washington-Baltimore area to San Diego. In addition to these route changes, United Airlines has removed four domestic non-stop routes, including one from Chicago to Los Angeles. However, it will still offer a large number of weekly flights across the country with its 777-200 aircraft.
