Unity 6 launches with enhanced features for mobile, PC, and console platforms
Unity 6 has been launched on mobile, PC, console, and extended reality platforms. The new engine features improved multiplayer workflows, mobile web development tools, and enhanced graphics capabilities that shift workloads from the CPU to the GPU. Unity's president, Matthew Bromberg, announced a new development approach emphasizing continuous testing and feedback. The company plans to support Unity 6 for at least two years after the next major release, a change from previous long-term support practices. Unity will introduce three types of updates: major releases, patch releases for bug fixes, and optional updates for new features. The first update, Unity 6.1, is scheduled for April 2025.
