Universal is developing a film adaptation of Sega's Shinobi series, directed by Sam Hargrave. The series, which began in 1987, features ninja protagonist Joe Musashi and has not seen a new game since 2011, though a new game is in development. The Shinobi film follows the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. It will be produced by Universal, known for its work on The Super Mario Bros. Movie and other successful adaptations. Ken Kobayashi will write the screenplay, while a film based on Sega's Eternal Champions is also in the works.
