University of Balochistan closes, classes shifted online
The University of Balochistan has closed indefinitely and moved all classes online. This decision was announced in a notification from the university's registrar on Tuesday. The notification did not provide a specific reason for the closure. However, the security situation in the region has worsened recently, with an increase in attacks on security forces in Balochistan. The notification instructed all campuses to conduct their academic activities online. The Directorate of Information Technology has been tasked with shifting all data to an online platform. Deans and directors are required to submit weekly performance reports to the Registrar's Office. University staff must continue to report to their offices as usual. In recent months, militants in Balochistan have intensified their attacks. The Balochistan Liberation Army has changed their tactics, aiming to cause more casualties and directly target security forces. On Sunday, a suicide bombing targeted a convoy of security personnel in the Noskhi district, resulting in the deaths of three security staff and two civilians. This incident occurred just after another attack in Quetta, where a police officer was killed and six others were injured. Additionally, there was a recent train hijacking in the Sibi area that led to the deaths of 26 hostages, including 18 security personnel. In response to the violence, the military has pledged to take strong action against the militants and their supporters, both inside and outside the country.
