UP man receives four-year sentence for transporting beef
A man from Uttar Pradesh has been sentenced to four years in prison for supplying beef. The case started on November 5, 2022, when police arrested Shan Mohammad in Hisar, Haryana. They found nearly 49 quintals of beef in his pick-up truck. The court found Shan guilty under Haryana's law against cow slaughter and cattle transport. In addition to the prison time, he was also fined ₹30,000. Shan was accompanied by a man named Mohammad Irfan, who was a beef trader. Irfan managed to escape at the time of the arrest but was later caught. However, the court acquitted him because the evidence against him was insufficient. Police had sent samples of the meat to a lab in Faridabad, which confirmed it came from cattle. The case has attracted attention due to the strict laws in place regarding cow protection in India.
