Upgraded US military vehicle enhances attack mission capabilities
A defense company in Virginia has upgraded its military vehicle to improve its performance in attack missions. General Dynamics Land Systems introduced the Pandur SHORAD vehicle, a 6×6 combat solution designed for better maneuverability. The Pandur SHORAD features a short-range air defense turret. This modification helps enhance command and control capabilities and gives infantry brigades better protected mobility and lethal options. The vehicle's important components are placed inside to increase reliability and safety. The company aims to address the Army's need for improved air defense. Ray Moldovan, a manager at General Dynamics, explained that the vehicle can better protect light infantry units during operations. The vehicle is equipped for air defense, ground combat, and countering drones. The Pandur SHORAD can carry various payloads, including radar and military drones. Research by the U.S. Army showed demand for solutions to protect troops on the ground. The turret of the Pandur SHORAD can be easily reconfigured by maintenance teams and shares most components across different setups to simplify logistics. Its advanced fire control system allows it to engage targets while stationary or moving. The vehicle can rotate 360 degrees and has various elevation settings for target engagement. It features a cannon for airburst rounds and can launch Stinger missiles. Additionally, the vehicle uses a radar system to track airborne targets and has control consoles inside for easy operation. The Pandur SHORAD is particularly designed to protect against both manned and unmanned aerial threats. The company also tested its Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle with the U.S. Marine Corps, showcasing its flexibility for future needs.
