HitPay and NPCI International have teamed up to bring India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to Singapore. This new service allows Indian tourists to pay using QR codes at more than 12,000 locations, including restaurants and shops. The partnership aims to make payments easier for Indian travelers by reducing the need for currency exchange or international fees. Ritesh Shukla, CEO of NPCI International, emphasized their goal of expanding UPI’s presence worldwide, making it a convenient option for Indians abroad. Aditya Haripurkar, the CEO of HitPay, highlighted that UPI has transformed India's payment landscape. He stated their focus on providing a reliable payment option for merchants and tourists in Singapore. Travelers who wish to use UPI in Singapore should check if their UPI app supports international transactions. Popular apps such as PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, and BHIM UPI may work, so it’s best to confirm with your bank. Once enabled, users can simply scan a merchant's QR code and complete transactions quickly. This initiative follows earlier partnerships by NPCI to enable UPI payments in other countries, including the UAE and Trinidad and Tobago. UPI has also been adopted in nations like Bhutan, Mauritius, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and France.
