Upstate NY archers excel in state tournament results
More than 500 students from New York state participated in the 15th annual NASP Bullseye Tournament last week at the Fairgrounds. The event took place on March 14 and featured archers from 39 schools. Western New York and the Southern Tier schools performed well during the tournament. They secured second and third place finishes and earned a trophy for the top male archer. Aiden Christopher, a senior from Liverpool High School, achieved the best score for his team with 253 out of 300. He expressed that the tournament was a fulfilling experience that rewarded their hard work. Sofia Parrotta from St. Joseph by the Sea was the overall top female archer, scoring 288. Jacob Dowdall from Norwich High School was recognized as the top male archer with a score of 289. Both received trophies along with a New York Champion Genesis bow, arrows, and a case. Competition in the tournament also included different school divisions. St. Joseph by the Sea High School won first place in the High School division, Canaseraga took first for Middle School, and Arkport won for Elementary School. Awards were given to the top ten finishers in each division, and those who placed in the top ten will compete in the National NASP Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky in May. The event was described as a great opportunity for students to develop new skills and gain confidence outside of their usual digital distractions.
