U.S. allows Ukraine to use longer-range weapons for strikes inside Russia
The U.S. has authorized Ukraine to use longer-range American weapons, specifically the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), for strikes inside Russian territory. This marks a significant shift, as Ukraine has long sought such capabilities to target Russian military assets. Previously, the U.S. restricted Ukraine's use of advanced weapons to avoid escalating the conflict. The ATACMS can strike targets up to 300 kilometers away, potentially impacting Russian operations in the Kursk region, where Ukraine has made territorial gains. Ukrainian leaders are cautious about the announcement, emphasizing that actual strikes will determine the impact. The decision may also influence other countries, like Britain and France, to provide similar long-range capabilities to Ukraine.
