US authorizes Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russian targets with restrictions
The U.S. has authorized Ukraine to use long-range American-made missiles against Russian targets, following pressure from Kyiv and the UK. This marks a significant shift in U.S. policy regarding military support for Ukraine. However, there are restrictions. Ukraine can only use the missiles to defend its positions in the Kursk region of Russia, where it currently has a limited presence. Strikes on other parts of Russia, including Moscow, are not permitted. The ATACMS missiles, produced by Lockheed Martin, have a range of 190 miles. Each missile costs approximately £1.2 million and has been used in previous conflicts, including the Gulf and Iraq Wars.
