US plans ban on Chinese software in vehicles over security risks
The Biden administration plans to ban Chinese-made software in cars due to national security concerns. The Commerce Department will issue a rule targeting hardware and software connected to vehicles, citing risks from technologies like GPS and cameras. The proposed rule will apply to all on-road vehicles, including cars, trucks, and buses, starting with 2027 models and fully implemented by 2030. It will also prohibit technology linked to China or Russia from being used in connected vehicles sold in the U.S. This action is part of broader economic measures against China, following earlier tariff increases on steel, aluminum, semiconductors, and electric vehicles.
