US plans to extradite Tren de Aragua members to Chile
The U.S. government plans to send three members of the Tren de Aragua gang back to Chile. These individuals are wanted there for serious crimes, including murder and kidnapping. The Justice Department announced this decision on Monday. The men involved are Adrian Rafael Gamez Finol, Miguel Oyola Jimenez, and Edgar Javier Benitez Rubio. They are accused of committing violent acts in Chile before entering the U.S. illegally. Gamez Finol has a record of being deported before, while Oyola Jimenez and Benitez Rubio are currently in custody. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the extradition would have already happened if not for a court order preventing it. This order came from a judge in Washington, D.C., who put a temporary stop to deportations under the Alien Enemies Act. The government is challenging this injunction in court. The Tren de Aragua gang is known for its violent crimes and was labeled a foreign terrorist organization in February. The ongoing legal proceedings are set to continue with a hearing scheduled in the D.C. Circuit Court.
