U.S. ships Marburg vaccines to Rwanda after outbreak kills 11
The U.S. has shipped vaccines and therapeutic drugs for Marburg disease to Rwanda, following an outbreak that has resulted in 11 deaths. The shipment occurred on October 4, with ongoing collaboration for clinical trials. Rwanda's first outbreak was reported in late September, with 36 cases confirmed. The U.S. is considering additional shipments to support these trials, which will evaluate several vaccine candidates. The Sabin Vaccine Institute has provided around 700 doses for trials targeting healthcare workers. Gilead Sciences will also donate 5,000 vials of remdesivir for emergency use in response to the outbreak.
